Indra Jatra (Yenya Punhi)

The Eight day festival celebrated in the Kathmandu Begins in September with the erection of the wooden pole made of the Pine tree at HanumanDhoka, Basantapur. The Kumari Jatra coincides with the Indra Jatra .The festival marks the beginning of the autumn.

According to legend, Indra disguised him as a farmer , descended to the earth in search of the parijat (Night Jasmine), a white flower his mother Basundhara needed to perform a ritual. As he was plucking flower at Maruhiti a shunken water spout at Maru, the people caught him and bound him as a common thief. He was then kept in common town square at Maru for the display. His mother being worried about his extended absence came to Kathmandu and wandered looking for him. A wicker representation of the elephant (Pulukishi) ran around city for his master.

When people realized that they had captured Indra they were applade and immediately released him. In reaction his mother Basundhara  promised to provide enough dew drops throughout the winter to ensure the rich crop. It is said from this blessing Kathmandu experiences the foggy Morning.

For I had tried listening while walking when I am free but that does not grab my full attention and details are always missed. Whereas podcast do some justice to the listening habit as it is short in format and sticks to the concise idea of having information in the short time. Re...
